Nexus (Nancy Joseph, Graduate Student, Cell and Developmental Biology) Our sympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the “fight or flight” response, develops from neural progenitor cells. When these cells are grown in a dish, they generate colonies containing many sympathetic neurons. This image depicts a colony containing 30-40 neurons stained with the neuronal marker peripherin.
